Branching by workspace version

Feb 21, 2011 at 11:53 AM

I was sure that branching by workspace version means branching a local version to a new branch. Isn't this true?

But in my environment I'm experiencing an opposite behavior. I have a folder with sources wich are in checked out states. I made a branch with "version type" equals "workspace version" and got a new branch. But this new branch contains sources not from my local folder but of server versions.

Do I understand "branching by workspace version" incorrectly or something wrong with my environment?

What version of Visual Studio are you using? What version of TFS?  Are you doing this branch from the UI (Source Code Explorer), or CommandLine (TF.exe)?

Server is TFS2008. Clients are VS2008 and VS2010 both with the same result. I'm doing branching from UI.

Actually I've found a workaroung - http://stackoverflow.com/questions/3728318/branch-from-local-workspace
